The property that now encompasses Black Jack Vineyard was purchased by W. Edward “Ed” Dirks in late 1972. It wasn’t until 2001 when Ed began growing grapes as a retirement endeavor that Black Jack Vineyard came to life. The 60-acre farm includes three and half acres of four varieties of grapes (Norton, Chambourcin, Cabernet Franc, and Viognier), which are all sold to local wineries. In 2019, Black Jack Vineyard was the recipient of the Ted Wickman Grape Grower of the Year Award.
The original barn on the property was built in the late 1800s, but has since undergone beautiful renovations. While the core of the barn is still original, the side sections were reconstructed and completed in 2017. The barn was originally intended for personal use, but has now housed several receptions and served as a gorgeous backdrop for countless photographs. Black Jack Vineyard is a hidden gem when it comes to a most desired venue for special events in southern Illinois.
While the barn is absolutely a focal point, the property contains other locations that couples have utilized for their special day. We would be happy to show you around!
We are family owned and operated allowing us to keep things simple and accommodating in every way possible.
